Join the Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Augusta for a talk on Maine Suffragettes provided by Augusta historian Phyllis Von Herlich. She has much knowledge of Maine’s contribution to this historical movement. Maine’s approach to suffrage was long and complicated. Women protested having to pay taxes without being able to choose who would represent them. The Maine Suffrage Association organized in Augusta in 1973. Come, listen and learn how Maine made a significant contribution to women getting the right to vote. Phyllis will explore some of the women who ardently supported a woman’s right to vote, one of which is her great, great aunt Haddasah Herrick from Harmony, Maine.
